SG: Caron Butler (2004-2005)

  • Performance on the Los Angeles Lakers:

Caron Butler was traded from the Miami Heat to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Shaquille O’Neal trade that part of the team shaking things up after losing in the NBA Finals. Butler was a promising young wing that ended up being an all-star but only spent one year in Los Angeles.

Butler was solid in his one season with the Lakers but it is quite clear that he was not fully progressed both in watching him that season and in reflection looking at his averages.

Butler averaged 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44.5 percent from beyond the arc. Solid, but he had a stretch from 2005-2010 where he was better than he was in Los Angeles.

Butler was traded to the Washington Wizards after his lone season with the Lakers.

  • Accomplishments outside of the Los Angeles Lakers:

The five-year stretch that we mentioned about Butler was essentially his prime as he was a two-time all-star in that span and averaged a combined 18.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

Outside of his two all-star nods and his All-Rookie nod, Butler did not accomplish any other accolades in the league. He went on to play until 2016 and returned to Los Angeles to play with the Clippers for two seasons.
