Lakers Rumors: 3 reasons to re-sign Pau Gasol for next season
By Jason Reed
3. Who wouldn’t want to see Pau Gasol back on the Los Angeles Lakers?
Because why not?
This reason might seem a bit trivial and I completely understand if you are not buying it. But there are some moves in sports that are very, very, very low-risk and have a great narrative around them, which leads to teams making those moves.

This is not how an NBA team primarily operates and doing so would lead to a terrible team, but sometimes an opportunity presents itself that a team simply cannot pass on. This is one of those cases.
Why wouldn’t the Los Angeles Lakers sign Pau Gasol? Sure, he did not play last season but the team would not be bringing him in to be a hugely impactful player. He would be brought in on veteran money (or it could even be non-guaranteed like with Howard) and give Laker fans another added thing to root for.
Look at Dwight Howard. While Gasol likely won’t be what Howard is this season, that was viewed as a last-ditch effort by the Lakers after DeMarcus Cousins was hurt. It turned into a feel-good story and Howard has been really productive for the first time in what feels like forever, even if the box score numbers don’t reflect that.
The Lakers are going to need the depth and have other veteran players coming off their contracts. Every Laker fan around the world would rather have Pau Gasol next season than Jared Dudley and the production-level would be identical at worst and would not even matter much, to begin with.
Pau Gasol is teeing it up for the team with these Lakers rumors, and now all Rob Pelinka is going to have to do is drive it down the middle of the fairway and complete a deal for next season.
