Lakers news: Dion Waiters reveals new nickname heading into bubble

Lakers guard Dion Waiters has a new cheesy nickname
All 30 teams are in the process of getting settled in the NBA’s bubble experiment at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The Los Angeles Lakers departed California on Thursday and arrived to the bubble on Friday.
Plenty of reaction from players around the league popped up over the first few hours and days in the bubble.
There was a grotesque reaction to some of the food offerings for players and staff, and lakers guard Rajon Rondo got roasted for comparing his fairly comfortable room to that of a Motel 6.
Lakers star LeBron James even compared leaving his family behind for potentially several months to “doing a bid.”
Whether or not you agree with that comparison, there’s no denying that adjustments need to be made for the new style of life these professional athletes, coaches, and team staff will begin over the next several weeks.
Adjustments hit even some of the most beloved nicknames of the Lakers roster.
Los Angeles Lakers player Dion Waiters reveals a new nickname
Dion Waiters took to Instagram to post his fit walking up to the plane with a caption revealing a new nickname for himself…
Waiters is known as “Philly Cheese” due to his roots growing up in Philadelphia and his allegiance to his hometown city. For the next few months, he’s adopting “Bubble Cheese.” Kind of fits!
His plane fit was complete with the Nike Jumpsuit, Air Force 1s, Lakers t-shirt, and some stylish sunglasses. Notably, no mask?
Waiters was signed by the Lakers mid-season after a tumultuous start to his season with the Miami Heat. Waiters was suspended for the start of the season for disciplinary reasons. Then, of course, there was the infamous plane incident that earned him the “Gummy God” nickname.
Waiters seems determined to turn his reputation around and contribute in a big way with the Lakers. With players like Avery Bradley sitting out the NBA’s restart, Waiters and other new additions like J.R. Smith have the potential to make a significant impact.
When Philly Cheese is heating up in the bubble, don’t forget to call him Bubble Cheese!
