How to improve the Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers would put themselves in an incredibly strong position going into next season with:
- Trading Danny Green for Josh Richardson
- Landing Jeff Teague in free agency
- Going after Alvin Gentry and Chris Finch for the Lakers coaching staff.
If the Lakers re-sign DeMarcus Cousins next season as they are expected to, the starting line-up for the purple and gold could be significantly stronger than this season which is saying something.
PG — Jeff Teague
SG — Josh Richardson
SF — LeBron James
PF — Anthony Davis
C — DeMarcus Cousins
That starting line-up gives the Lakers dominant big men in the paint capable of excelling on both offense and defense, it also gives them a back-court pairing of Richardson and Teague who can help take the pressure off LeBron James to be the primary and only facilitator on the squad.
While the Lakers get potentially worse when it comes to 3-point shooting with Richardson and Teague over Green and Bradley, they get a duo who are more consistent in dishing out the ball and creating for themselves.
The Lakers can add 3-point sharpshooters on the bench to make up for the 3-point deficiencies.
Some might worry that trading for Josh Richardson might stop the Lakers from signing Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Summer of 2021, you can bet that if the Lakers realize that they are going to land Giannis, they will ship Richardson for next to nothing if it meant clearing the cap space.
Implementing these three things makes the Los Angeles Lakers as an organization better.
