Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is pricing himself right out the door!
The price of winning is spending money. The phrase sounds dumb, but it’s amazing how many role players believe that huge raises should come with contributions. Nobody on the Lakers roster fits that description more than KCP.
Look, nobody blames the man for wanting a raise. It’s just the raise that he wants that will get him tossed out of Hollywood. After stealing money for two years, KCP overcame obstacles to be one of the team’s most important shooters during the playoffs, especially in the NBA Finals.
According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the early negotiations have not gone as smooth as expected. However, KCP needs to figure out that Rob Pelinka is not a man to waste time in negotiations. It seems another Klutch Sports client is on the team.
What does this mean for Caldwell-Pope according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst?
"Assuming Anthony Davis signs for full max of $32.7 million, the Lakers will have roughly $16 million left below the hard salary cap they’ve triggered with signings tonight. Makes retaining Caldwell-Pope difficult when filling out roster."
