3. Point guard
This is a position that is hard to gauge as we currently stand today. The Los Angeles Lakers can go several different directions with the point guard position and the starting point guard for 2021 might very well already be with the team in Dennis Schroder.
There are still a lot of uncertainties with the position. Schroder is a free agent and the Lakers should probably move on from him. Alex Caruso and Talen Horton-Tucker are also free agents, leaving no real depth at the position that is guaranteed.
Caruso and THT are must-signs for the Lakers which gives the team more projected depth than it currently has. And while a second playmaker is one of the things that the Lakers need this offseason, they probably can get that from a veteran free agent.
That is why point guard ranks third despite there being uncertainty around the position. The biggest learning curve in the NBA happens as a point guard, especially if that point guard is being tasked with facilitating and playmaking.
A rookie is simply not going to develop the skills needed right away and it is much easier for the team to turn to a veteran that can come in, get their 15-20 minutes of playmaking to help LeBron James and contend for a championship.
The team already has youth at point guard, I would be surprised if they picked a point guard in the first round unless someone significant falls.
