Los Angeles Lakers greatest scorers: 30. Jim McMillian
Jim McMillian is another player that often gets lost in the shuffle in the illustrious history of the franchise, but he’s also a player that was involved in one of the most successful runs in the history of the Lakers. He played for three seasons in Los Angeles from 1970-73, which includes the historic 71-72 Lakers that reeled off 33-straight wins on their way to a title.
McMillian is one of the often forgotten role players on that historic team, but he was quite productive as scorer for those teams at the small forward position. He played in 242 games for the Lakers and averaged 15.3 points per game over that stretch. Moreover, he shot an impressive 46.8 percent from the field for those teams and was really one of the complimentary pieces that helped bring it all together in Los Angeles.
Because of the teams he played on, the stars on those teams, and the simple fact that he wasn’t a member of the Lakers for all that long, McMillian isn’t the first name that comes to mind in terms of great Lakers and great Lakers scorers. However, that’s what he was for those teams and he deserves a spot in the rankings.
