2. Doc Rivers

Doc Rivers’ Philadelphia 76ers are still in the NBA Playoffs and there is no guarantee that he will even be on the market for the Los Angeles Lakers to pursue. If the 76ers make a Finals run then he will not be on the coaching market, which is exactly why Lakers fans should be rooting for the 76ers during the playoffs.

The 76ers already showed some Doc Rivers signs in the first round of the playoffs when they allowed the Raptors to crawl back from a 3-0 deficit to make it a series and force it to six games. With Joel Embiid missing time with an injury against Miami, this could be the series that Philly is bounced and Rivers is fired as well.

Rivers is one of the most prolific head coaches in the league and he really rode the 2008 Celtics for a long time as proof that he was a great head coach. However. his playoff track record has been under closer inspection in recent years and it is not pretty.

Rivers has been on the coaching side of some of the worst blown leads/series in the playoffs in NBA history. While he is known for treating stars right, the way that he coaches and the rotations that he uses have simply not been effective when things slow down in the playoffs.

Why would the Lakers want to hire someone who was presumably just fired after only two seasons for falling short yet again?
