The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz on Sunday to officially end the 2022-23 regular season. Things started terribly for the Lake Show at the start of the season but the team was able to rally after a 2-10 record to finish with a 43-39 record.
It was a different season after the trade deadline for the Lake Show. The team was able to not only trade Russell Westbrook but craft a roster that was younger and more talented.
Thanks to the hard work of the front office and the new-look roster, the Lakers were able to secure a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament as the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Here is everything you need to know about the team’s play-in matchup.
Who are the Lakers playing in the play-in?
The Los Angeles Lakers are playing the eighth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Play-In Tournament. If the Lakers beat the Timberwolves then they will advance to the NBA Playoffs as the seventh seed and play the Memphis Grizzlies in round one.
If the Lakers lose then they will play the winner of the ninth/tenth-seed matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder. If they win that game then LA will be the eighth seed in the NBA Playoffs and will face the Denver Nuggets. If they were to lose, they would miss the playoffs altogether.
Minnesota and Los Angeles have faced off three times this season. The T-Wolves won the season series two games to one but lost the most recent matchup on March 31.
