The Los Angeles Lakers dropped Game 5 on Wednesday night to the Golden State Warriors but that was not the main story. Instead, the main story was Anthony Davis getting a wild elbow from Kevon Looney that knocked him out of the game and at the time, seemingly caused him to leave on a wheelchair.

Luckily, there is hope that Davis avoided a concussion and a video of him walking out of the arena under his own power surfaced later in the night. While that is better for the team’s long-term goals, it doesn’t change the fact that Wednesday was horrible and AD should have never taken a dirty hit like that.

Instead of talking about that and the fact that this seems to be a trend for Warriors’ opponents in the playoffs, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley were instead laughing at the report that Davis had to leave the arena in a wheelchair.

Sure, Davis has a history of getting hurt so that is where the humor is coming from for Shaq and Chuck. That being said, if Davis actually did leave the arena on a wheelchair it wouldn’t be a laughing matter. It would be a serious head injury and to just downplay that and make fun of the guy is distasteful.

Lakers fans are disowning Shaquille O’Neal after laughing at Anthony Davis.

Shaq is an all-time Lakers legend as he won three championships with the team and has his jersey retired in the rafters. But since his playing days have been over, he has not pounded the purple and gold drum in the same way that other former players have.

Don’t get us wrong, we don’t want Shaq to go onto NBA on TNT and be a blatant Lakers homer. That is just as bad. But fans also would love to see him sympathize with his fellow LA big man and offer actual analysis instead of laughing at the idea of him having to get wheelchaired out of the arena.

That raised a very good discussion with Lakers fans about whether people still claim him to be a Laker. A lot of fans answered with an emphatic no.

Thankfully, Davis appears to have avoided serious injury and Shaq laughing at him is a distasteful moment and isn’t him blatantly laughing at a seriously injured player. If Davis would have suffered a very serious injury then this clip would have looked even worse.

But his status for Game 6 of this series is still up in the air. LA hosts Golden State on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. PDT.
