The Los Angeles Lakers have put together one of the best offseasons in the entire NBA. Los Angeles was able to bring back the core that helped the team make it to the Western Conference Finals last season while also adding key improvements.

The purple and gold still have to go through other Western Conference powerhouses like the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns but they absolutely have to be considered one of the premier contenders in the sport. As long as Anthony Davis and LeBron James stay healthy great things will happen.

Los Angeles isn’t even done adding to the roster, either. The team currently has 13 players on the roster with space to add two more. Both of those players could come now but they also could wait to add a player on the buyout market in the future with the big advantage the team has.

The Lakers also have several trade exceptions that they can utilize if they wanted to bring in a backend rotation player for cheap via trade. LA is not going to land a star by doing this but the team could add a solid depth player.

The Lakers could use their trade exceptions to add a big man for depth.

Perhaps the biggest area of need for the Lakers right now is another big that can provide depth while also allowing Davis to play fewer minutes in the regular season. It seemed like Mo Bamba was going to be that player but he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

With the other options on the market being less than ideal, Los Angeles could flirt with the trade market and use a trade exception to bring in a backup big. And luckily for the team, the San Antonio Spurs have just the type of player the Lakers might be looking to add.

Let’s dive into the trade package itself.
