Kobe Bryant is the greatest player in Los Angeles Lakers history and is easily the most beloved athlete that the city of Los Angeles has ever seen. There are Lakers fans and then there are Kobe fans.

There were never any doubts that the Lakers would eventually build a statue for Bryant to immortalize his contributions to the game. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss already confirmed it was coming but never gave a concrete date.

That has changed. One day after what would have been his 45th birthday, fittingly on August 24, the Lakers have announced when the statue will be unveiled: February 8, 2024. 2-8-24.

8 and 24 are two numbers that are immortalized because of Kobe’s play with the Lakers. 2 is another very important number to the Bryant family, as it was the number that Gianna Bryant wore.

Who do the Lakers play when the Kobe Bryant statue is unveiled?

Los Angeles is scheduled to play the Denver Nuggets on the day that the Kobe Bryant statue will be unveiled. It is hardest to think of a bigger marque matchup for this day and that is exactly what Kobe would have wanted.

Denver are the defending champions that the Lakers are looking to usurp. The Nuggets franchise is also one that was denied in the playoffs several times because of Bryant. It is hard to think of a better matchup.

How to get tickets for the Kobe Bryant statue game:

The Lakers have not officially released tickets for the 2023-24 season. There are some tickets on sale on secondary markets like StubHub and SeatGeek already but those are from season-ticket holders.

Tickets for the 2023-24 season actually go on sale Friday, August 25 on Ticketmaster. There is a pre-sale for subscribers and those already on the wait list at 10:00 a.m. PT. The tickets go on sale to the general public at 12:00 p.m. PT.

So if you want to secure tickets to the Lakers and Nuggets game on the day the Kobe statue is unveiled I would make sure to refresh the Ticketmaster page over and over at noon on Friday. If you miss tickets there, you are going to have to pay absurd prices on the secondary market.
