Los Angeles Lakers fans have been forced to endure a sizable increase in the speculation surrounding the idea of LeBron James joining the Golden State Warriors. After watching others hype up mid, it is time for a good laugh in the Lakers' favor. Thanks Anthony Slater!

The Warriors insider delivered an eye-opening look at everything that is known about the Warriors offseason at this stage. In the section that focused on LeBron, Slater revealed a crucial stance with regard to how Golden State is treating James' coming free agency decision.

"The Warriors are a willing suitor. ... But openness does not equal anticipation. All the intel that Warriors decision-makers have gathered continues to point toward James' return to the Lakers, team sources said, and they are currently plotting their summer under that premise."

Is there anything really more telling than a franchise not truly giving themselves a chance?

The buzz around LeBron joining Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler has been loud. Speculation about the Warriors using their $15.1 million nontaxpayer midlevel exception to court James has been consistent. Ultimately, it all just comes across as overdone and overhyped now.

Warriors have never made a ton of sense for LeBron James to begin with

What is it exactly that Golden State has to offer for LeBron to be so enamored by that destination?

The chance to be in a great winning situation, which James has openly stated as being important to him, is not truly there in Golden State. Going from the Lakers to the Warriors would be an undeniable trade down for LeBron.

Curry's team did not even make the playoffs in 2025-26. Bridging the gap from that to a genuine contender is almost impossible to properly envision coming together.

Financially? The big payday is not there either. It may not be around anywhere in the NBA, but whatever the Warriors can offer, the Lakers can outdo it if they really wanted to.

All in all, the Warriors give no real chance to compete for a title, very little financial upside, plus they bring added off-court obstacles that would not exist by staying in Los Angeles. Sexy sales pitch, isn't it? It just does not make a whole lot of sense for anyone in 2026.

The Warriors are right to be operating under the assumption that James will be back with the Lakers. It is the path least traveled in all the best ways. That is a point fans in Los Angeles should keep reminding themselves of the next time these oddly-connected rumors spike again.
