LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 103-99 win over the Sacramento Kings in a road clash on Saturday night. James, who will turn 40 years old in nine days, recorded 32 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Despite dealing with previous injury trouble, LeBron is still one of the better players in the league.
It should be noted that James has endured a down season by his extremely lofty standards. Nevertheless, his play on Saturday reminded fans how much of an impact he can have. X (formerly Twitter) was buzzing with reactions following LeBron's tremendous performance.
LeBron James had some help from his teammates as well.
D'Angelo Russell scored 20 points and added five assists. Austin Reaves dropped 16 points to go along with five assists as well. Anthony Davis only finished with 10 points, but he added 15 rebounds to help the Lakers in the victory. Davis also recorded five assists.
The Lakers have endured a fairly inconsistent season overall. They are currently playing an impressive brand of basketball, though. Los Angeles has now won three consecutive games and four of their past five. The Lakers improved their record to 16-12 with Saturday's victory.
Are the Lakers a playoff team with LeBron James leading the way?
The Lakers will be one of the most intriguing teams to follow ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Los Angeles' depth could use a boost, so making a trade or two could completely change the trajectory of the Lakers' season.
At the moment, though, LA is playing well. Their ups and downs are concerning, though. Consistency, something that has been difficult to find for the Lakers this season, will be the key to making a serious postseason run. Of course, staying healthy will be crucial as well.
So are the Lakers a playoff team? It is too early to confidently say one way or the other, but there is no question that Los Angeles features the potential to make things interesting in the Western Conference.
If LeBron James continues to turn back the clock and play like he did on Saturday night against the Kings, then LA will find themselves in an especially favorable position.
LeBron and the Lakers will try to build on their recent momentum in their next game on Monday against the Detroit Pistons. Los Angeles will then play the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day.
