Game Grades: Jeremy Lin Helps The Sixers’ Lottery Odds
By Alex Torres
Two of the worst teams in the NBA faced each other tonight at Staples Center and the winner was actually the loser. The Lakers need to land a top five draft pick in order to keep their selection. If they go into the lottery and it’s outside the top five, the Sixers receive the pick.
The Lakers went into this game with the fourth worst record in the NBA and had a chance at having the third worst record, which the Sixers own, but they could not make it happen. The Lakers played great in the fourth quarter and ended up beating the Sixers convincingly 101-87.
We will be grading the players based on how they helped the tanking effort tonight:
MVP: Tarik Black got the tanking memo and only scored two points tonight. While he had six rebounds and two blocks, Black didn’t do much damage, which was perfect for the tanking effort. Thanks Tarik, it’s unfortunate the rest of your teammates didn’t follow suit.
LVP: Really Jeremy Lin? You had to have one of your best games of the season today? Lin scored 29 points, five rebounds, five assists and shot 10 for 16 from the field. He led the rally on the fourth quarter and was responsible for putting the game out of reach.
Stat of the Night: 27-12. The Lakers outscored the Sixers 27-12 and that’s all it took for them to get the win. Philadelphia played a great three quarters and they looked poised to win this game, but they went into full tank mode in the fourth quarter. Now, the Lakers have a one game advantage and the Sixers could have two top 10 picks in this year’s draft, while the Lakers could be left with none.
