Lakers draft prospect, Brandon Ingram, showed why he’s now in the conversation to be the first overall pick come June

As of late, Ben Simmons’ stock has been falling, consequently leading to the rise of Duke freshman, Brandon Ingram. Just a week ago, Ingram jumped Simmons in Draft Express’ latest mock draft as the top prospect and hasn’t looked back since.

Despite having his NCAA title hopes crushed by the one seed, Oregon Ducks, in Anaheim Thursday night, the 18 year old showed flashes of potential which caused him to leap into the number one spot. More over, he did so in front of Kobe Bryant himself.

In this short minute and a half clip, Ingram shows that he is the total package.

  • He can take you off the dribble and hit mid range buckets or get to the rim and finish with either hand.
  • He can step out behind the three point line and drill them even with a hand in his face.
  • He has the presence of mind to discern when he should do one as opposed to the other.

Additionally, the video doesn’t show his block or two steals and how his length bolsters his defensive prowess.

On the night, Ingram finished an efficient 9-of-20 from the field, 2-of-7 from three, for a total of 24 points, adding five rebounds and three assists.

Personally, when it comes to the draft, I’ve always been Team Ingram because of his potential and also his fit with the current Lakers squad so it’s nice to see the rest of the country begin to see just what this guy can do.

At this point, to me Simmons seems like a more skilled Julius Randle than the next Lebron James but check out Jacob Rude’s take on Ben Simmons as a perfect rebuttal to this point.

Again, the Lakers will first have to keep their pick before any of this matters, but if they do end up with the first overall pick, it is beginning to look more and more like Ingram will be their guy.
