Lakers Rumors: Matt Thomas signing contract overseas
Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Las Vegas Summer League sharpshooter, Matt Thomas, has reportedly agreed to a deal overseas.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors have picked up in recent days as the team looks to fill out the end of their roster. Many people would like to see the Lakers give the players from their Las Vegas Summer League team a chance with the NBA team.
The Summer League Lakers won the championship in Las Vegas with multiple standouts. No. 2 overall pick from the 2017 NBA Draft, Lonzo Ball, took home MVP honors and finished on the First Team All-Tournament. No. 27 overall pick, Kyle Kuzma, was named to the Second Team All-Tournament and was named MVP of the championship game.
Both of those players are guaranteed roster spots as first round picks. Other players were not afforded the same luxury and had to earn a spot. Point guard Alex Caruso signed a two-way deal after playing well while replacing Ball in the starting lineup. Another standout was the undrafted free agent, Matt Thomas.

Thomas was not originally in the Lakers rotation in Las Vegas. He scored only two points the first three games in limited minutes. With how deep the Lakers roster was, Thomas didn’t have much of a shot. But, as the games went on and the Lakers suffered more and more injuries, Thomas got his shot.
Thomas made the most of the opportunity. At Iowa State, he was a very good shooter and he took it to another level in Las Vegas.
Thomas wound up knocking down 62.2 percent from the field and a mind-blowing 60.7 percent from deep. He made 14-of-16 from behind the three-point line in the final three games, including an impressive showing in the title game.
In the championship game, Thomas went 8-of-9 from the field and 5-of-5 from deep. Many fans were excited about his prospects to join the Lakers in some capacity. Unfortunately for the Lakers, it seems that Thomas is moving on.
According to Sportando, Thomas will be signing a one-year deal with Obradoiro of Liga ACB. Thomas has a very bright future with his ability to shoot the ball, so it is not surprising to see him land a deal overseas.

There is a good chance that Thomas’ deal with Obradoiro is more lucrative than a two-way deal with the Lakers would have been. It would have been nice to see him get a shot at training camp, but when an offer you like comes around you cannot pass up on it. We wish Thomas the best of luck overseas this season!
