Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Former power forward/center Thomas Robinson is working out for the Boston Celtics hoping to land a roster spot if it opens up.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors have been slow recently. The NBA offseason is in a lull, as training camps are still weeks away from beginning. However, most of the player movement in free agency is done as well.
The Lakers are probably done adding players, as they already have 19 players on the roster for training camp. One of their players from last season, Thomas Robinson, is still looking for a job. Now, he could be close to landing one.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Robinson has worked out for the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are waiting for the Kyrie Irving trade to be finalized, and if it does, they will have an open roster spot.
Robinson is hoping the workouts with Boston help him land that spot according to Wojnarowski.
Robinson’s path in the NBA has been a tumultuous one. He was selected No. 5 by the Sacramento Kings in the 2012 draft, but you wouldn’t know it by how his career has gone. Robinson lasted only 51 games with the Kings before being traded to the Houston Rockets in his rookie season.

That was the first of many moves for Robinson. The Rockets would trade Robinson to the Portland Trail Blazers that offseason, so he was a part of his third franchise less than a year after being drafted.
Portland would end up being the longest stay for Robinson thus far in his career. He played 102 games with the Trail Blazers before they traded him to the Denver Nuggets prior to the NBA Trade Deadline in 2015.
Robinson wouldn’t appear in a game with the Nuggets, as they would waive him following the trade. The Philadelphia 76ers would claim him. He played his best basketball of his career in Philadelphia and parlayed that into a multi-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
He played in 71 games for the Nets before hitting free agency again. He signed with the Lakers last offseason, once again showcasing his outstanding rebounding ability. Now he is once again on the free agent market and looking for another opportunity.
Through five NBA seasons, Robinson has been with seven organizations. He has yet to receive an extended opportunity, but the Celtics would present a solid landing spot for him if the Celtics trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers goes through.

Arguably the biggest weakness for the Celtics right now is in the front court, specifically with rebounding. Rebounding is Robinson’s biggest strength, so he could carve out a role with the Celtics much in the way that Amir Johnson did last season.
