Former Los Angeles Lakers power forward/center Thomas Robinson will be heading overseas this season.

The Los Angeles Lakers have revamped their roster this offseason. The frontcourt, specifically at center and power forward, saw the biggest overhaul.

The first move the Lakers made in their offseason was acquiring Brook Lopez from the Brooklyn Nets, along with the 27th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The Lakers sent D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Nets. With the 27th pick, the Lakers added Utah power forward Kyle Kuzma. The 42nd pick was also a big man, as Indiana center Thomas Bryant heard his name called.

The Lakers didn’t stop there. Stephen Zimmerman was also added on a training camp deal. Most recently, Los Angeles also signed veteran center, Andrew Bogut.

With so much movement in the frontcourt, the Lakers were unable to retain some of their big men from last season. A fan favorite, Tarik Black, was waived earlier in the offseason and eventually signed with the Houston Rockets.

Another big man the Lakers were unable to retain was Thomas Robinson. Unlike Black, Robinson was unable to find a landing spot in the NBA. Instead, it was announced today that he will be heading overseas for the 2017-18 season.

According to pro basketball reporter David Pick, Robinson has agreed to a deal with Khimki Moscow of Euroleague. Contract specifics were not released, so compensation and a possible NBA our clause are unknown.

Robinson, who was selected with the No.5 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, has been unable to find his footing in the league. He has played for six organizations and been a part of seven. Robinson has lasted more than a season with only one of them, the Portland Trail Blazers.

Robinson has averaged 4.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in his NBA career. His best performances came with the Philadelphia 76ers, as he averaged 8.8 points and 7.7 rebounds in 22 games, playing 18.5 minutes per game.

At only 25-years old, it is surprising to see Robinson unable to land an NBA job. While he has been unable to live up to the expectations of a No. 5 pick, Robinson has an elite talent every NBA team could use; rebounding.

Robinson has a career per-36 minute rebounding number of 12.9 per game. His 19.8 total rebound percentage, 25.7 defensive rebounding percentage and 14 percent offensive rebounding percentage is also very impressive. To put that into perspective, all three would have easily ranked in the top-20 of the NBA last season.

Robinson recently auditioned for the Minnesota Timberwolves according to Sam Amico. However, not much must have come out of since he will now be heading overseas to play.
