The Los Angeles Lakers will host Notre Dame point guard Matt Farrell next week.
The Los Angeles Lakers are working hard evaluating prospects at the UCLA Health Training Center. Los Angeles has been hosting players for pre-draft workouts as they prepare for the 2018 NBA Draft.
The Lakers own the No. 25 and No. 47 overall picks in the 2018 NBA Draft. While the selections won’t change the Lakers plans for free agency, these are important picks for Los Angeles. There are a few holes on the roster, as they have a number of free agents on the team. Filling those holes with affordable, young talent is key to building a winning roster.
Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka have hosted a number of prospects already. A lot of the prospects have participated in six-player groups. The most recent one was headlined by Kansas point guard, Devonte Graham.
On Monday, the Lakers are going to be workout out another point guard. Notre Dame point guard Matt Farrell will work out for the purple and gold on Monday according to Adam Zagoria. Following his workout with the Lakers, Farrell will be heading to the Denver Nuggets.
Farrell played all four years at Notre Dame. After playing sparingly his first two seasons as a reserve, Farrell came alive as a junior and senior with two productive seasons.

Farrell’s numbers dropped a little bit as a senior as an ankle injury plagued him the second half of the season. Farrell gave it his all when on the court to help his team, but it was not enough to get Notre Dame into the NCAA Tournament. Farrell, along with preseason All-American Bonzie Colson, battled injuries and they were too much to overcome.
As for his NBA future, Farrell’s best asset is his 3-point shooting. He can knock down a jump shot, but his size will be a real deterrent. His size makes it difficult for him to score in traffic and at the rim. It also impacts his defensive negatively. When his small stature is mixed with so-so athleticism, it is not easy to play defense, especially against athletically gifted players.
However, Farrell is a hard worker. His high basketball IQ and motor help make up for his lack of size and athleticism.
For the Lakers, Farrell probably won’t be in consideration at No. 47. However, he could be someone they target for the Summer League if he goes undrafted.

The Lakers desperately need 3-point shooting and that is Farrell’s best skill. As an undrafted free agent and summer league invite, Farrell would be worth a look.
