Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is teaming up with Ben Simmons to produce a new comedy series.
The Los Angeles Lakers won the LeBron James sweepstakes this summer. The Lakers and James agreed to a four-year, $154 million deal to bring the Akron native to Hollywood.
Los Angeles was not the only team that pursued James this offseason. According to James himself, he seriously considered two other teams: the Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets.
Both teams are probably closer to contending than the Lakers are, given their talent that is in place. The Rockets have an All-NBA backcourt in Chris Paul and James Harden. The 76ers have two foundation building blocks in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
While James and Simmons won’t be teaming up on the court, they will be teaming up off of it. One of the reasons James was drawn to the Lakers was because of the off-court appeal that comes along with it.

James has already produced a talk show since being with the Lakers, and is now adding another project to his resume along with Simmons.
According to Nellie Andreeva of Deadline, James and Simmons are combing to make a comedy based on Simmons life titled Brotherly Love. A script commitment has already been approved by NBC and Kourtney Kang was named executive producer.
"“Brotherly Love is inspired by the life of Ben Simmons and centers on a unique sibling relationship within a multi-ethnic family,” Andreeva explained. “Together, they pursue their dreams while navigating life in the spotlight in Philadelphia, a passionate city where sports is in your blood, and your blood is always boiling.”"
In addition, the company created by James and Maverick Carter, SpringHill Entertainment, will help produce the show as well. In addition to Brotherly Love, the company also produces The Wall, which is also on NBC. Their work also includes documentaries on YouTube, Starz and much more.
This is yet another accomplishment for James off the court. There were many people who said that James chose the Lakers for more reasons other than basketball, and that seems to be true. In addition to the Hollywood work, James also opened up his new I Promise School in Akron.
While James has dominated the court for years, as he was named the No. 1 player in the league by Sports Illustrated for the sixth consecutive year, he is now looking to dominate off the court as well with his projects.
