1. Machado has proven he has the experience to play in the NBA
Scott Machado, an American born Brazilian professional basketball player, knows what it takes to be a great point guard.
The Iona College product was not drafted but was signed by the Houston Rockets for the 2012 Summer League. Machado is the No. 19 ranked player all-time in assists in D1 NCAA Basketball with 880 assists in 132 games. He ranks along with Duke’s Bobby Hurley (No. 1 at 1,076 in 140 games) and Gary Payton (No. 13 with 939 in 120 games). He is the 2012 NCAA season assist leader and earned a spot as a finalist for both the Wooden Award and the Bob Cousy Awards.
After performing well, Houston signed him to an NBA contract. Machado has also played for the Brazilian national basketball team, most recently this summer.
He played down with the Rio Grand Vipers and up with the Rockets all season until January when he was traded to the Santa Cruz Warriors (G-League) after being waived. He played for both the SC Warriors and the Golden State Warriors, including a playoff game. Machado earned NBA D-League All-Rookie First Team honors in 2013.
Bouncing around in the NBA, he also played four seasons overseas for FIBA teams in France, Spain, Estonia, and Germany.
