The Chicago Bulls perspective

It is easy to ask, why would the Bulls do this? They have a shooting guard under contract who puts up 23.5/4.7/4.5 and was a borderline All-Star last season. Well, simply put, the Bulls are not close to being a contender. While they have solid pieces in Wendell Carter Jr., Lauri Markkanen and LaVine, they are a team that is many pieces away from being where they need to be.

While Kuzma is the only player of significant value in this trade, there are a number of role players that could develop into something nice for the Bulls with Josh Hart showing that he can be a good starter when given the minutes.

A Kuzma, Lauri and Carter forward rotation would be an exciting grouping. The draft pick would also allow the Bulls to use this as a trade chip to get out from under Otto Porter Jr.’s massively inflated contract, which is currently making it difficult for the Bulls to upgrade their team. This would also free up cap space for the Bulls to add some talent to the roster.
