The Los Angeles Lakers are moving closer to making their new dynamic duo official, and Magic Johnson weighed in the LeBron James, Anthony Davis pairing.

The Los Angeles Lakers always find a way to grab headlines. Throughout the NBA Playoffs, despite not even qualifying, they were the talk of the town.

Those talks culminated with a trade finally being agreed upon between Los Angeles and the New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers finally landed the second superstar they were coveting in Anthony Davis, to pair with LeBron James.

It cost the team a lot to land him. Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart are all on their way to New Orleans along with a plethora of draft picks. New Orleans is set up well as their rebuild shouldn’t take very long.

Los Angeles has some work to do to fill out the roster around their new superstar duo, but they have a solid foundation to build upon. James and Davis give them one of the best duos in the NBA currently.

As a result, the Lakers could really push themselves into contender status depending on how free agency plays out. One person who won’t officially be a part of that process is Magic Johnson.

Johnson shocked the sports world when he resigned hours before the Lakers took the court for their season finale against the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite no longer being with the team in an official capacity, Johnson has remained close with Jeanie Buss and is even providing some assistance.

Some people would think that there would be some animosity between Johnson and the organization with how things went down. Johnson went on ESPN’s First Take and aired some dirty laundry, yet still found time to congratulate Rob Pelinka, a person Johnson was critical of, about the Davis trade.

At the end of the day, Johnson loves the Lakers and bleeds purple and gold. So, it should come as no surprise that he offered up his opinion on how James and Davis will mesh on the court.

Johnson spoke at BET Genius Talks and discussed the newest superstar duo in the NBA.

"“LeBron is still the best in basketball. When you put another superstar with him in Anthony Davis, both of them will allow each other now to really play their game and dominate. Because what happens is the floor opens up. LeBron is such an incredible passer and driver. He always makes his teammates better, so look for Anthony really to have probably one of his greatest seasons.”"

The duo of James and Davis will be a tough one for opposing teams to stop. The pick-and-roll between those two will be dangerous as their skill sets match up very well.

However, for those two to reach their ceilings, the players surrounding them need to fit as well. Finding some shooters to help spread the court will be important so that James and Davis can operate without the middle of the court being clogged.

Johnson’s goal when he took over as President of Basketball Operations was to bring stars back to Los Angeles. He was able to bring LeBron to town and Davis eventually came as well. Despite not having an official title with the organization any longer, Johnson has to be happy to see his plan come to fruition.
