Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve Anthony Davis, who has left the door open in regards to a return to his hometown of Chicago in free agency.

There have been plenty of Los Angeles Lakers rumors in the early going of the 2019-20 season. A majority of those Lakers rumors have revolved around the rotation, as Frank Vogel has been working on finding the right combination of players.

Thus far, a lot of his decisions have paid off. It helps when you have a superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. With those two dominating on an almost nightly basis, it has taken the pressure off of the supporting cast.

Davis has lived up to the billing thus far. Los Angeles surrendered a treasure chest of assets to acquire him for the New Orleans Pelicans, but he has performed well while still acclimating himself to Los Angeles. However, could he be acclimating himself to another city next season?

Davis could become a free agent following this season. There have already been rumors about it, as Davis will re-sign with the team as long as they don’t mess things up.

What would constitute as messing things up is anyone’s guess, but at this point, the Lakers are the clear favorites to sign Davis to a long-term deal. He wanted to play in a big city, as Los Angeles and New York were atop his preferred landing spots.

While the focus is on this season, Davis’ impending free-agency will be something to keep an eye on. The team isn’t worried about it yet, but fans will be a little worried after hearing what Davis said in a recent interview following a practice.

Los Angeles is playing against the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night. Chicago is where Davis hails from and during an interview, he teased the possibility of returning to play for his hometown Bulls.

Davis was asked if he had a chance to return home to play for the Bulls, would he do it. Davis’ answer may surprise some people.

"“Honestly, it’s nothing like playing at home,” Davis responded, after the room filled with laughter. “I don’t know. … I mean, I am a free agent next year, but we’ll see. It’s a possibility.”"

This will make the Lakers and their fans a little uneasy. While he may have been joking around during his response, he has now left the door open about possibly leaving in free agency. Davis will now have to answer questions about what he said for the foreseeable future.

The Lakers have title aspirations this season. Dealing with any outside distractions is unwanted, and Davis may have just created some, even if he was just being polite to a young person who asked a seemingly harmless question.

For Davis and the Lakers, focusing on the season at hand is what they need to do. Outside noise such as this will only keep them from accomplishing their goals. The less Davis says about his potential free agent future, the better.
