2. Lakers go on a streak and win 17 of 18

Big reason for the Lakers being at the top of the West is the streak they went on by winning 17 of 18. After a loss to the Toronto Raptors on November 10th, the Lakers decided to take control and start clicking on all facets. They seemed to rack up wins every game with the only hiccup being a 114-100 loss against the Dallas Mavericks on December 1st.

The Lakers showed during the stretch that they have an elite defense to compare with an elite offense. James and AD led the way and their core of players settled in nicely to help each game. You could see with each passing game the chemistry continuing to get better.

They had some good wins against Denver, Utah and Miami during the stretch to show that they can beat playoff teams as well. The Lakers are 17-0 against non-playoff teams this year, so they’re getting the job done and not taking nights off and playing down to their opponent. Any winning streak regardless of the opponent is good in the NBA.

The schedule will start to tighten up for the Lakers and their goal is to get healthy for prime time matchups coming up. Regardless this stretch of winning 17 of 18 games will play a huge role late in the year when teams are fighting for playoff seeding. It’s one of the top moments early in the season for this Lakers team.
