Los Angeles Lakers rumors: NBA G League expected to be canceled
If recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors come to fruition, the remainder of the NBA G League season will be canceled.
There have been plenty of Los Angeles Lakers rumors in recent days with the NBA season being suspended. Many of those Lakers rumors haven’t been very positive, as the outlook of when games will start back up keeps getting pushed back.
The NBA announced that they were going to suspend things for at least 30 days. At that time, they would re-evaluate how things looked. Policies were put in place for teams to follow. However, the newest update pushes that 30 day window back even further.
The CDC made a recommendation to not have group gatherings of more than 50 people for eight weeks. That puts the NBA on hold, presumably, until at least mid-May. If that is the case, drastic schedule changes will need to be made to complete the season.
With the NBA season being pushed into the summer, some things will be canceled all together to make it work. One of those casualties looks to be the G League.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Malika Andrews, NBA teams who operate G League teams are expecting the remainder of their season to be canceled.
The G League regular season was supposed to go on for another two weeks, ending March 28th. The postseason was then expected to run through April.

The biggest takeaway from Woj’s tweet is that the players will be paid through the end of the schedule. The payment of players and arena workers has been a big discussion in recent days, so it is nice to see that the G League players will not have to worry about payment.
A big reason, according to Wojnarowski, for the G League potentially being canceled is figuring out a schedule that would work for everyone. Getting flights is also difficult, as most G League teams fly commercially. NBA teams having to foot the bill for private flights would be difficult to make happen.
If there is no more G League games this season, the Lakers G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, will finish the season 19-25. If their season is indeed over, they ended on a high note, defeating the Auston Spurs, 148-138.
The Lakers were first in the G League in points per game. All in all, 12 different players averaged double-digit points per game for the Lakers.
Gary Payton II led the way with 21.4 points per game. Rookie Devontae Cacok had a strong season, averaging 19.4 points with a team-high 11.9 rebounds. David Stockton was tied with Payton with 6.8 assists per game.
