At 41 years old, LeBron James should not have been able to star as the leading man in a series win over the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately for anyone who truly got behind that idea, the Los Angeles Lakers star has been throwing haymakers at Father Time for the entirety of his older years.
James had another major punch in him, dishing out the performance which guided the Lakers to a comfortable 98-78 win over the Rockets in Game 6. LeBron finished the matchup leading all scorers with 28 points, while adding seven rebounds and eight assists to the cause as well.
After the night was over, there was no doubt the Amazon Prime panel would want to talk to James about another vintage performance. Taylor Rooks wanted to know the score between him and Father Time. LeBron left no doubt.
"Oh, I'm kicking his ass. He can go to somebody else at this point. He already lost to me. It's over with."
Father Time may have been served the death blow by LeBron James
The NFL just had a superstar in Tom Brady who played well into his 40s at an elite level. Brady became a two-time Super Bowl champion once he passed that threshold. After the best quarterback of all time gave Father Time a good beatdown, the shift focused to the NBA and LeBron.
Where one sports legend was not conquered, perhaps another could be. Right? Wrong.
At the beginning of the year, it did briefly look as though James might finally look in the mirror and reazlie his age. After returning from a sciatica injury that delayed his season debut, the Lakers star forward looked rusty. That did not last.
James eventually shook off that slow start and finished the regular season averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists, while shooting 51.5 percent from the field. Before the campaign was over, the Lakers were asking LeBron for even more than that.
Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were down. The Lakers needed stability from their old man. James brought it.
LeBron did not need to prove anything at this stage of his legendary career. And yet, the future Hall of Famer just lead a playoff series win as the first option for the Lakers when all odds were stacked against his team.
James has every reason to believe Father Time has lost their head-to-head. Despite his age, people are chatting about what team LeBron will go to after the season is over, and not what the Lakers star will do in his post-playing career. That should tell anyone all they need to know about the victor here.
