By now, it seems more than obvious that at the end of this season Byron Scott will no longer be employed by the Lakers.
Having served his purpose, hopefully leading the Lakers to back-to-back top three draft picks, Los Angeles must be careful with who they select as the next coach.
Unlike the Warriors who had the luxury of trying out Jackson then quickly switching to Kerr, the Lakers currently have a multitude of coaches still under contract so they must be wise with who they choose.
Instead of opting to look towards the past like they have with the past few coaches — Mike Brown, Mike D’Antoni and now Byron Scott — it’s essential that the Lakers look towards the future with their next selection.
In the past few months, we’ve cataloged some of their options, but the most fitting option seems to be ex-Laker and current Warriors interim head coach, Luke Walton. Not only does Walton have ties to both the Lakers and Warriors organization, but he’s quickly proven that he’s a capable NBA head coach, leading the Dubs to an even better record than they had last year in his first season in charge.
This leads directly into the second point, player personnel.
