Draft prospect, Brandon Ingram worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers last week, but footage was held relatively under wraps unlike his workout for the Philadelphia 76ers
Coming fresh off the news that the Lakers weren’t completely sold on selecting Brandon Ingram at second overall, the 76ers added fuel to that fire when they pulled out all the stops upon meeting with the Duke prospect on Monday.
In addition to sitting down to dinner on Sunday night with head coach, Brett Brown, multiple members of the front office, and even Sixers’ players, Ingram worked out at their practice facility where he was joined by Jahlil Okafor, Joel Embiid and Robert Covington.
Whether to workout afterwards, alongside, or just to show support, similar to what D’Angelo Russell did just last week, it’s an encouraging sign to see your young players fully on board in support of a player who very well could be the future of the organization.
Strangely, dissimilar to the Lakers workout which was kept completely private in terms of the workout — the press was allowed to interview Ingram almost immediately after — the Sixers’ media leaked footage of small parts of Ingram’s workout.
Considering the fact that the session was indeed a private workout, why the Sixers’ brass would allow their reporters to leak footage is a bit confusing to wrap your head around. It becomes even more confusing when you realize that the footage of Ingram wasn’t even necessarily that flattering.

Surrounded by a multitude of people, assumed to work for the Sixers’ in some shape or form, the video seems to resemble a middle school tryout more than the organized, professional workouts we’re used to hearing about.
The Sixers have been doing a variety of questionable things in regards to the media lately, including but not limited to saying that they’re thinking about taking Jamal Murray first overall. But with the first overall pick in hand, the question remains, who are they trying to fool?
Though it could be a sad attempt to lure Ben Simmons into working out with them, seeing as it looks like he’s going to avoid doing so entirely, they have to realize that if given the choice, Simmons would definitely prefer to land on the Lakers than the Sixers, so Simmons basically gets his way by you drafting Ingram.
According to Philly.com, “The Sixers did not work out Nerlens Noel in 2013, Joel Embiid in 2014, or Jahlil Okafor in 2015 before acquiring them in the last three drafts,” so this isn’t unfamiliar territory for the organization, but hearing what they’ve heard about Simmons ever since they landed the first overall pick could have them second guessing their ambitions.
Whether or not the Sixers are actually as interested in Ingram as they feigned, or if it was just a big ruse to coax Ben Simmons, we’ll just have to wait and see, but at this point the Sixers seem to be their own worst enemy.
