The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. Check out our recap and highlights of the game!
The Los Angeles Lakers winning streak came to an end Tuesday night. The Lakers lost at Madison Square Garden to the New York Knicks in overtime, 113-109. It was an exciting game with both teams going back and forth throughout the evening. The largest lead either team held in the game was 10 by the Lakers in the second quarter.
Coming from behind at Madison Square Garden has been a theme for the Knicks all season. The Lakers are the eighth team to blow a double-digit lead at Madison Square Garden already this season.
Like so many teams before them, the Lakers had no answer for Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis dominated, scoring from all over the court. He poured in a game-high 37 points, making 14-of-26 from the field, 5-of-8 from 3-point range. He also made 4-of-5 free throws, adding 11 rebounds.
The Lakers were also hurt by Michael Beasley in crunch time. Beasley hasn’t played many late game minutes for the Knicks this season, but tonight Jeff Hornacek went with him and it paid off. He scored 12 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. Four other Knicks in addition to Porzingis and Beasley scored in double-figures.
Leading the way for the Lakers was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Caldwell-Pope scored 24 points, but it wasn’t the most efficient performance. He made 8-of-20, hoisting 14 3-pointers and connecting on only four of them.

Off the bench, Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle got the job done once again. They were a big reason the Lakers opened up their lead in the first half, but the starters blew most of it before even getting to halftime.
Kuzma scored 19 points off the bench, including the 3-pointer that tied the game late in the fourth quarter to push the game into overtime. Randle scored 13 with four rebounds and two assists. Clarkson added 12 points with six rebounds and three assists in only 20 minutes.
Lonzo Ball had a great game in his first professional appearance at Madison Square Garden. Ball spoke about how excited he was to be playing there and he put on a show on the court. Ball took over at one point in the third quarter. He slammed home an alley-oop from Caldwell-Pope, which he followed up with a three-pointer and left-handed layup on three consecutive possessions.
He looked confident and was playing well. However, those were the last points that Ball scored in the game. He finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block.
Brandon Ingram had an uncharacteristically poor game. He didn’t make his first shot until there were 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter. He finished the game only 2-of-12 from the field for five points. Ingram did help in other areas, pulling down seven rebounds with five assists, one block and one steal.
